High Protein Low Carb Diet-The Best Diet For A Quick Weight Loss

Posted on: October 6, 2008

If you are wondering which weight loss diet to follow, well the options are many but the most popular among all diets is the high protein low carb diet. Atkins diet is one popular example of this diet. Following such a diet where you are not eating any complex carb ( roti, rice, bread, pasta etc.) makes the body use the body’s fat stores for energy. So the already existing fat is targeted and you drop kilos. This diet is great if you are looking at losing weight quickly. I find it a very effective and foolproof diet, however continuing this kind of eating over a long time can be extremely hazardous. Therefore I have devised my own form of high protein low carb diet to be followed only for 2 days. After 2 days you will see a drastic weight loss of about 1.5-2 kilos, which is partly water loss also. So if half a kilo or so bounces back it’s pretty normal don’t fret about it. The main trick is how to maintain the weight that you have lost. Follow these 3 tips and you’ll be able to carry the off weight easily.

  1. The diet is primarily quite high in protein and very low in carbs( veggies and fruits). Therefore you must be very careful when you go back on your normal diet. After the diet introduce a carb like a slice a bread or a small roti only for breakfast and continue the rest of the diet as same. Similarly keep on introducing one carb per meal the in following days. Have a look at the maintenance diet for a better overview.
  2. Drink up as much of water as you can. You need to flush out your system
  3. Avoid alcohol, rice, sweets and junk food for the next 4 days.

Sample high protein low carb diet

Breakfast

  • 1 glass of skimmed milk/ salted lassi/ soy milk
  • 1 bowl sprouts/ 2 egg whites( boiled)
  • 1 fruit ( any fruit except banana, cheeku and grapes)

Snack

  • A handful of soyabean/roasted channa
  • 1 glass lemon water( salted)/  low calorie drink/ lassi

Lunch

  • 1 bowl paneer vegetable/ chicken( 1 teaspoon oil)
  • ½ bowl dal( any)
  • 1 bowl low fat raita( any vegetable)
  • 1 bowl salad

Snack

  • 1 cup tea/coffee
  • 1 bowl of mixed fruits

Dinner

  • 2 pieces of grilled chicken/ fish/ paneer
  • 1 bowl salad
  • 1 bowl clear veggie or chicken soup

 Sample maintenance diet

Breakfast (Day 1; you add a carb keeping the snacks, lunch and dinner as same)

  • 1 glass of skimmed milk/ salted lassi/ soy milk
  • 1 slice of bread with cucumber, tomato/ 1 roti with veg (carb)
  • 1 fruit ( any fruit except banana, cheeku and grapes)

Snack

  • A handful of soya bean/roasted channa
  • 1 glass lemon water( salted)/  low calorie drink/ lassi

Lunch (Day 2; you add another carb, so now you are having carbs for breakfast and lunch keeping the dinner and snacks as same)

  • 1 bowl vegetable
  • 2 rotis( carb)
  • 1 bowl low fat raita( any vegetable)
  • 1 bowl salad

Snack

  • 1 cup tea/coffee
  • 1 bowl of mixed fruits

Dinner (Day3; you add another carb, so now you are having carbs for breakfast and lunch and dinner keeping snacks as same)

  • 1 roti(carb)
  • 1 bowl salad
  • 1 bowl clear veggie or chicken soup

Twice a week keep your dinners, only a large bowl of soup with salad. Rest of the week keep to the maintenance diet.If you couple this diet with a 30 minute workout, the results will be better and more sustainble. So moving around a bit will only help.

I swear by the high protein low carb diet, it fills you up, cuts cravings and makes you more energetic. But as I said the trick is to do it properly and sensibly so that you keep those kilos off for long.
