The Aloo Factor

The confusion over potato is quite nerving. It is thought this starchy vegetable is the biggest culprit when it comes to gaining weight. Well,on the contrary the innocent aloo has been devilled a bit too much. A wonderful source of vitamin C and other nutrients such as vitamin B1, B3,B6, potassium, magnesium, folate and phosphorus, the humble aloo is truly humble. It is rich in dietary fibre and has anti ageing properties. However since it is a starchy vegetable it has a high tendency of absorbing oil, so frying them will obviously add to calories. 100gm or 1 medium sized boiled aloo contains 135kcal and frying it would increase the calories to 450. You can eat it boiled or baked, aloo is great to snack on. Being a complex carb, it keeps you full for longer and also controls your cravings. So don’t omit aloo, just watch how you eat it.
